Some of the most beautiful and intimate songs you're likely to hear this year... the bud is full of songs in which notes fall from her guitar like soft rain and her voice sometimes reduces to a whisper.
David Curry, Times Out, June 2004
With her second album Melbourne singer-songwriter Lucie Thorne delivers on the promise made by Botticelli Blue Eyes, her wonderful 2002 debut. The Bud is, to borrow one of the song titles, a 'quiet island', a tranquil place where if you take the time you'll find a lot more than first impressions suggest.
Thorne is an economical songwriter, distilling stories and emotions down to a few eloquent phrases. Her deceptively simple melodies unfold in the most entrancing way. Evie and I, about being led around by a small child (a favourite niece?), is the most disarmingly sweet song for a child I have ever heard. Thorne's singing is warm and intimate and her dark voice is somehow made even more appealing by the broadest of Australian accents. The interweaving acoustic guitar playing of Thorne and Tom Hall defines the music like sunbeams filtering through the leaves of a tree. A stunningly beautiful album.

Fine, dark voice. Engaging songs about relationships and everyday life

lucie brings an approach to song presentation that is unique, haunting, and true to life. Her musicianship and very special lyrical capacity will take you on an incisive journey of life and love which is timeless, ageless ... she has an uncanny ability to hold her audience spellbound ... you can hear a pin drop.
Bill Arnett, The Merry Muse Folk Club, Canberra
